Utilities and Sustainability

Main content start

It is important for project managers to consider how their project might impact other parts of a building as it relates to energy use and sustainability. Even a small project can cause comfort issues to adjacent spaces and increase energy use. The Department of Sustainability, Utilities & Infrastructure (SUI)  will help you determine what effect your project will have on the different utility services in a building, such as HVAC, chilled- or hot-water, or sanitary sewers, etc...

SUI can also find ways to meet sustainability goals in your construction project, for example, choosing sustainable building materials and reusing or recycling construction debris. Remember, all carpet can be recycled!

Utilities and Sustainability tips:

  • Consult the Facilities Design Guidelines (FDG) for sustainability and energy management standards
  • Contact SUI during the planning phase of your project using the Water Utility Service Application
