Message from the Vice President

Stanford University is a tremendous place where bright and passionate people strive to make progress to further the University’s objectives. This is a vibrant community, where growth and its impacts must be thoughtfully considered, vetted and implemented. We strive to make informed decisions to ensure that Stanford’s facilities are designed, constructed and maintained to serve the ever increasing needs of a world-class teaching and research institution.

Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) is responsible for the stewardship of Stanford’s land and building assets, both academic and commercial. Additionally, LBRE is managing Stanford’s $2.8 billion capital construction program--the largest in Stanford’s history. With over 400 employees, an annual budget of $150 million and annual capital expenditures of approximately $500 million, LBRE responsibilities span a wide spectrum including, for example, the preservation of our historic architecture, the protection of endangered species, the operation of utility plants, and the development of a luxury hotel.

Additionally, LBRE is leading several key initiatives: a University-wide sustainability and carbon reduction program,a Sustainable Development Study for Santa Clara County, entitlements for both the new campus in Redwood City and the Stanford University Medical Center renewal, and the Habitat Conservation Plan.

Stanford University is an extraordinary institution and LBRE is proud to participate in its stewardship. The resources and support provided by the University leadership and our traditions of consultation and collaboration have allowed us the privilege of protecting and enhancing its land, building and real estate assets. We are the caretakers of a legacy.

Robert C. Reidy, Vice President, Land, Buildings and Real Estate, Stanford University
