The Seismic Engineering Guidelines
Quick Links
The location of Stanford's campus adjacent to major active earthquake faults warrants a high level of consideration for seismic performance. Stanford recognizes the importance of seismic engineering in the design of new facilities and in the retrofit of existing facilities. The purpose of the Seismic Engineering Guidelines ("guidelines") is to document Stanford's approach for the analysis and design of new and existing facilities on campus. Specifically, the guidelines set a facilities classification and related performance levels for Stanford's buildings to address the following three overall University earthquake performance goals:
- Protection of life safety for the Stanford Community
- Secure our critical infrastructure and facilities
- Resume the teaching and research program
